I love listening to both of you ladies, I look forward to your segments every week! Hey Denise! It’s Lisa 😊
I have been on edge like the rest of you with this budget bill debacle, but I wanted to share some amusing anecdotes about something you guys brought up in your conversation.
I was dying when you were talking about Europe and the ice situation. My whole family is from Italy and Sicily. My siblings and I, plus some of my cousins, were the first to be born in America. I know all about their idiosyncrasies which I actually find endearing.
First off, they really don’t like air conditioning in general. Many of the people in Italy that I know of have air conditioning nowadays, they just don’t use it! I can’t even imagine going without in Sicily! I was there once during the summer as a child but even with those vague memories I do remember that heat.
As for the ice - they feel that it will “ice their stomach”. Yes, ice their stomach. That is a direct translation that sounds silly in English, but that’s the idea. I have a family friend who went to live in Rome for several years and he said that was a legitimate reason to call off work! If someone put ice in your drink! Oh, and if someone left the window open.
They seem to be obsessed with catching a chill, and it’s not just the elderly, even the young people! The phrase they always use if they had the misfortune of being in the path of an open window is “colpo d’aria”, which means “blast of air”.
They swear up and down that they get sick from this. As a matter of fact, my cousin Salvo walks around with a scarf around his neck during the winter in the house! I find this very amusing, and they think we are crazy for constantly putting ice in our drinks 😆
Now that the OBBBA Bill passed, what do you think of Elon Musk's threats to start another party? Do you think he'll be successful? Or do you think he'll split the vote?
You ladies are amazing! Denise, I grew up in Lincoln Square, not too far from Lincolnwood. I remember taking Lincoln all the way up there to go to the shopping mall. Anyway, the big bullshit bill is going to hurt a lot of people who voted against their own interests. I'm on Obamacare, and I hope this doesn't fuck me up.
OMG, Helen, when I heard Lisa Murkowski say one of the “perks” she got was for “Whalers”, I had to back it up and watch it again just to make sure I heard it correctly. I thought whaling had been outlawed decades ago. The thought that it’s still going on makes me feel ill.
Denise saw ALL of this but I was getting bad in cards for 2 years but I thought oh God what is this and/or I saw women being tortured and war ) but what is happening now is flat out good vs. evil
Thanks Helen and Denise
